India logs world record with 4,529 daily deaths SHARE
India on Wednesday recorded 4,529 Covid-19 deaths, the highest single-day spike of fatalities anywhere in the world since the beginning of the pandemic, official data showed.
The South Asian country set the grim global record by breaching the previous highest figure of 4,475 in the United States on January 12, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
India saw 267,334 new infections in the past 24 hours, taking its overall caseload to 25.5 million, the health ministry said in its latest bulletin. Altogether, 283,248 people have died of the disease. India, battling a second deadly wave of the pandemic, had also registered the world s highest daily tally of 414,188 cases on May 7.
In an effort to continue supporting businesses as they recover from the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the San Diego City Council has unanimously approved an extension of interim urgency ordinances to allow the City’s Temporary Outdoor Business Operation (TOBO) permit program to continue. Without the extension, permits for all restaurants were set to expire on July 13, 2021, and permits for other business services on Aug. 3, 2021. Now, the approval extends the expiration date for all permitted outdoor operations through July 13, 2022.

Daniel Prude was 41 when he died March 30, 2020, a week after Rochester police restrained him during a mental health call. Local activist group Free the People ROC has planned an advocacy campaign this week to garner support for Daniel’s Law. The state bill, named after Daniel Prude, who died in March 2020 after being restrained by Rochester police, would have mental health professionals respond to mental health and substance use emergencies instead of police. State Sen. Samra Brouk and Assemblyman Harry Bronson are the bill’s co-sponsors. During a virtual news conference on Monday, Bronson said the Rochester delegation is on board to get people the help they need.
